For a combined 400 marks, General Studies I and General Studies II, often known as CSAT, are the two objective-type papers that make up the UPSC Prelims. Both papers are often presented in two sessions using offline mode (pen-paper) on the same day.

NDA declares universal cut-off marks and does not provide any separate cut-off marks for SC, ST or OBC candidates. For prelims, candidates are awarded marks out of 900. However, the final selection is done after calculating marks out of 1800, which includes both written exams and medical examinations.
