Everything About Derry Girls
The black comedy teen drama was created and scripted by Lisa McGee, with its first season aired on 4th January 2018 on Channel 4. Although the series is fictional, the incidents are inspired by the real-life experiences of the showrunner when growing up in Derry, Northern Island. The web series is made under the direction of Michael Lennox and is produced by Hat Trick Productions.
Derry Girls shows the story of five teenagers starring Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, and Dylan Llewellyn in the mid of the 1990s. The teenagers navigate their life attending the fictional Catholic girls’ secondary school during the end of the Troubles in Derry. They then unwillingly found themselves in awkward situations amid political unrest and cultural divisions.
Derry Girls Season 4 Storyline
The coming-of-age series centres around the character of Erin Quinn, her cousin sister Orla, and their friends Michelle, James and Clare. The teenagers attend a fictional Catholic girls’ secondary school, which in real life is inspired by Thornhill College, where the creator of the show herself studied. Although the plot of the series is fictional, it still depicts some actual incidents of the Troubles and the Northern Ireland peace process. The teenagers in the story, while steering through the political unrest, find themselves in trouble.
